Let's get running!
Solent Running Sisters have provided Beginners' Courses for many years now - enabling many women to start running. Whether your ambition is to run 5 km or (eventually!) a marathon, starting out well is essential, picking up good habits and building up your confidence.
Running in a group really helps - quality conversation makes a session much easier and we support each other. For the Solent Running Sisters there is no such thing as "too slow" - we organise sessions so that nobody is left behind and nobody is held back. In fact, we are often advising beginners to "slow down" if they are to meet their distance goals.
Take a look below to see the wide range of training opportunities available to you if you decide to join the Solent Running Sisters.
Beginners Course (BEG)
Our beginners courses are aimed at those that have not run before so they start off with a run/walk approach. They're open to anyone that can already walk at a good pace for around 30 minutes.
All of our beginners courses are lead by England Athletics qualified leaders and coaches (CiRF and LiRF) and they are assisted by some of our regular runners who also join in to support and encourage you.
The course lasts 10 weeks and you'll need to attend 1 club session per week. We will supply you with a training course plan and guidance for your homework runs.
You are more likely to progress well if you are able to commit to running 2 or 3 times each week. Many beginners buddy up to do their homework sessions together, we can set up a WhatsApp group for the duration of the course to help facilitate this. It also helps if you can undertake some low impact aerobic exercise too – which can be as simple as taking more walks.
By the end of the 10 week course, we aim to enable you to run 5K, without walking breaks. We will also celebrate your new found love of running with a Graduation parkrun and medal at the end of the course!
