Race Numbers

We wanted to remind the club where we stand on race entries, race number transfering and swapping. Some of which is legal and fine, some of which is not.

If you advertise a race number on our social media, when it can not be legally transferred, the post will be deleted. If we see any comments also referring to this, the comments will be deleted. We will only allow official legal transfers of numbers to be advertised on the page. If you do have a place to sell/transfer, please include the final transfer date so that if someone sees it later, it is known if it is still valid.

Races such as the HRRL races have long transfer window lengths and have an official Facebook group for buying/selling within the window. They also advertise when a transfer window is ending to ensure everyone knows. Why shouldn't you swap numbers?

Running under someone else’s name or number where it has not been officially transferred can lead to serious consequences for both the athletes involved.

It can result in disciplinary action and short-term bans direct from UKA/EA, it could result in a ban from that particular event organiser, it can cause great upset when incorrect winners/records are shown and it can be dangerous. Race numbers are linked to names and emergency information that was recorded when you sign up to a race. It is vital that this information is correct to the runner that is using that number.
